Anyone have a ballpark cost figure for an electric drive 200hp pump ? Pressure required would be about 2000psi.

Pumping what? Or are you just after the cost of the motor?

Pumping fresh water or brine

I guess since this is a motor and control forum, I'll leave out the pump and just ask about the drive and the motor, assuming a variable frequency drive and AC motor, appropriately matched.

Motor about £6,000 for a brand name item.
Drive about £3,800 for a brand name item.

I suspect I am going to be told how high prices are in the UK. [surprise]

With you using HP instead of kW, I'll assume you are in North America somewhere. "Cost" in and of itself is a bit nebulous; installed cost? OEM component cost? End user estimation cost?

If it's end user price you want just on the parts, figure on $8-9K for a variable torque VFD, $4-5K for the motor if you want a good inverter duty quality product.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I appreciate it very much.

Seems you should by the VFD in the UK and the motor in the US! I'm quite surprised by that, although the US obviously has a number of indigenous motor manufacturers while the UK has very few and those are mainly in niche markets or are custom builders. Most of the old British manufacturers have either closed or set up shop in Eastern Europe to the detriment of everything about their operation except cost. Maybe the quality will come back given time, but it will be a long time before I spec a Brook motor again.

Pricing is all market based. Whenever someone asks me why the price of something is what it is, my answer is "Because it can be".
