I'm examining a welding specification for tube-to-tubesheet welding with the following materials:
- Tubes: SB 338 Ti Gr.2
- Cladding (explosion): SB 265 Gr.2
- Base Material: SA 182 Gr.304L

I think no preheating is needed, am I right?

Is any of the typical heat treatments used for Ti required after welding?

The SB-338 and SB-265 Grade 2 alloys are basically unalloyed Ti. There is no preheat required, and no post weld heat treatment for welding. However, certain precautions are required for welding Ti alloys.

I have included the TiMet web site which has a decent technical guide on fabrication and handling of Ti alloys.

Cleaning and purging are super critical. Any discoloration is unacceptable.
Often Ti tubes are welded in because the material is soft and you can't develop stong enough joints just by rolling them.

Corrosion never sleeps, but it can be managed.
