trying to move the origin ? 2

Is there a way to move the origin to another location on a model and save it then out put it to an iges file, to use on a cmm. The problem Iam having is part -vs- mold.

You could also try to Float the model, and use Mates to position the model relative to the origin, placing the model where you want it.

I think what you want to use is the Move/Copy Bodies tool. You can get there by going to Insert-Features-Move/Copy...or you can and the toolbar icon from the Tools-Customize-Features menu. This will allow you to move and rotate the model to your specified location.

The alternative is to re-model the part so that the origin is where you want it to be.

If you have an assembly model, you should have one part only that is set to "fixed". Unfix it and move everything. You have the option of moving to a co-ordinate.

If you have a part model, your life is way more complicated. Your origin is somewhere in the plane of your first sketch. If you want it in that plane, you can open the sketch and move it around so that the origin is at the corner or other feature that you want. If you did the rest of your modelling carefully, everything will not screw up.

I have not tried to move the origin from my original feature to another feature. This calls for a clear understanding of how your model works. Try selecting your desired origin feature and disconnecting all of its features from the preceding features in the history tree. You might be able to move it to the top of the tree. I have not tried this.

Do as CorBlimeyLimey recommended in the first response. Then look up "IGES Export Options" in the SW help. What you need to do is specify your "Output coordinate system" during the SaveAs.

When Exporting an IGES file, there is an option for "Output coordinate system." This allows you to select a different coordinate system than the default.

So, you can create a coordinate system in your model, orient it however you wish, and then export the model as iges using that coordinate system.
