Just thought that you might wish to see a "view" of the area that we are going through in our mountain road relocation. The cut line high up is for the new 20 kV and 150 kV transmission lines. The valley that will be rock fill is perpendicular to the picture and at the bottom of the hill in the forefront. Beautiful river - shame to see that it will eventually go . . .

Now will the Titans make it 11-0? Had a chance to see my Dawgs beat Buffalo in tape delay. Close games are always good to watch. Growing up outside of Cleveland, you gotta love the Browns. But living in Toronto during the Jim Kelly years - you got to love the Bills too - and I got to sit the pine and watch Dick Juruan (Buffalo's head coach - and an Eli) play against Marinaro (Cornell's Big Red).

BigH - That is amazing country. Seems like everything that you do there is "larger-than-life".

Would be nice if the Titans have a "perfect" season, but the odd are always against that. Since pro teams don't have a long tradition is the South (USA), I tend to pull for them based on how close they are, geographically:
1. Panthers
2. Jaguars
3. Falcons
4. Titans
etc.

Rob: I sent you a note through vacuumtubeera at gmail and it came back undeliverable? Reason? or did I get it wrong! Yes it is pretty amazing countryside; Laos was like it too. See that Favre beat the Titans - watch them end up 10-6! [cheers]

cool photo BigH! Likely an interesting project too!

Not a football fan at all; my only interest in the game is hoping every year that the Browns will stomp the Ravens, thereby humiliating Art Modell for giving Cleveland fans the finger by moving the old Browns to Baltimore. No such luck this year. (Like Big H, I'm from the North Coast; I also went to college in Cleveland. And yes, I have some anger issues.)

BTW, Big H, I was in Cleveland last month for the 2nd or 3rd time since '81. Don't know when you were there last, but it does look different. The waterfront area west of Burke airport looks very nice with fairly new museum, Jacobs Field, and the R&R Hall of Fame. The Flats is all fern bars and nautical tourist stuff. Last time I was there, it was all industrial and shipping, and biker and punk bars where you were over-dressed in a clean black t-shirt. Even the river looks pretty nice, although I'm not itching to move back. The wind off the lake reminded me of one November day when I was standing on a construction site looking out at the white caps on the lake and getting chilled to the bone, and decided that I really did want to finish college.

dgillette - Must have been Case, eh? I actually never spent much time in Cleveland proper - from the burbs in western Lake County. I nkow what you mean about the cold and wind - I was a punter in high school besides linebacker. I took a job in Toronto after uni since I couldn't see myself having to listen to the Steelers every day. I just keep hoping for the Dawgs to finally get it together.
Drop a line sometime, eh?? bohicafries gmail

Rob: Oh, . . . vacuum tube era; mmmm I thought it was vacuum tu beer a !! [bigsmile]

"Vacuum tu beer a"!!! No, No, No - vacuum tubes, as in OLD radios - such as this 40 inch tall, 1936 Zenith console that I brought back to life (electronically) and rebuilt/refinished the cabinet:

Case it was indeed. A great undergrad engineering school, in a location that helped develop good study and work habits. (The campus culture was good for that too.)

[About ten years ago, I had a construction project north of Santa Barbara and flew into the SB airport frequently, and saw the UCSB campus right there close to the beach. It's a good thing I didn't go to UCSB, as I would never have gotten any work done there. I've surfed just a little, but enough to know that it could easily have taken precedence over studying. Ditto with rock climbing had I gone to Boulder for my bachelor's. I did go there for grad school, but I'd already developed my Case nerd work ethic by the time I did.]

Cool link to air races, vulcanhammer.

Painesville Ohio - the picture of the gal sitting in the car - county seat of Lake County (my home county). Interesting city - actually quite beautiful from memory - it was a special day heading over to there from time to time. I was at the Cleveland Stadium watching an Indians double header on the day of one of the races - back in 1968 or so. They had a bunch of jet flyovers - seemed to come right up into the stadium horseshoe and then scream straight up. So intereseting that one of the Cleveland pitches called time out, turned around sat down on the rubber and watched for a minute - until the ump came out and gave him 'ell!!

Cornell was an interesting campus, too. Gorgeous. Of course, it was also a party school - with 50 fraternities why wouldn't it be. We were ordered by the school to do "community service" for something or another and our "service" was to place cannisters for the Easter Seals drive. We visited all the bars within 5 miles of our house. Some 52 or them (including VFW, etc.) We had agreed, to cut down the libation, that we would drink at only every other one! - half the guys at one, the other half at the next. How we made it home . . . .?????

dgillette - like surfing? Head on over to Bali. Great place. My wife is there now with our 17 year old daughter and we have taken a villa for a year near the beach - our friends couldn't watch our girl for her last year of school. Good price, actually, and it is in Rupiah!

Thank you, Steelers. Don't much care who, as long as it's not the Ravens.

Dave - but to a Browns fan, the Steelers are only infetesimally (sorry about spelling) above the base level of the Ravens!! (i.e., lower than whale excriment on the bottom of the Mariana Trench!!) [bigsmile] Go Cardinals - they deserve a win after all their bad luck - which is as long as the Browns'. Why can't they play the Superbowl in Cleveland this year - 12 to 24 inches of snow on the ground - then we'd see who the "man's" team really is!
