My mentor went to Harvard as well - MAJ Matich - you might have known or heard of him when you were with Trow. He worked/became President of Geocon which was an offshoot of the Foundation Company of Canada. Actually HQ Golder was coming over to work when Seychuk, Milligan, et. al., broke off of Geocon to open up Golder. Fred studied under the Casagrandes. Interesting that one of the Indian geotechnical texts that I have was written by an Indian who also went to Harvard about that same time - Kurnian.
I think Fred graduated from there in 1950 or so - he had a math degree I think from Kiwiland, then as a research project he determined ability of tanks and armoured vehicles to pass on certain types of ground based on the depth of penetration of a 45 bullet into the ground. Interesting - something the Germans needed in Norway as their military never took into account the high sensitivity of their clays - first few tanks had no problems, then the problems started . . . I'll write you off line on something I'd like to discuss.
Cheers,
