Not sure where you are located or what your resources might be, but there are good geotechnical short courses around the world that would teach you the fundamentals of these tests. Absent the ability to attend such a course, you could study the classical geotechnical texts (Terzaghi, Bowles, Sowers, Lambe and Whitman) and the laboratory texts of Lambe and Whitman.
