Can anyone direct me to a source for information on what testing is required to get a custom designed trailer hitch approved for sale to the general public??
Kinda off topic but brings back memories. I worked for Draw-Tite and we used to hop in the back of a van with a trailer in tow to test sway bar applications. Someone would drive crazily down a dirt road with the guy in back filming
The 10000 pound test used to shake the entire engineering building. I think we only tested two directions here in the US. European tests had an additonal direction (forward I believe)
We used to twist hitches into pretzels if the engineer was careless in his choice of tube sizes. But its amazing how much the hitch could move and still be acceptable.
