Hello,

I have a hollow threaded rod. I need to torque a nut to it. I would like to determine the max torque I can apply to the nut before failure. I would assume that, because the rod is hollow, I should be concerned with radial stress on the rod as well as shear stresses in the threads. Can someone provide a little guidance with this issue?

a tube in torsion and compression ...

radial stress ? maybe from poisson effects
