Is there a mechanical device that can torque limit without destroying the gear train and attached motor? I seem to remember a clutch that one could set at a specific value.
Shear pins are currently used. And with the amount of devices; it is a maintenance nightmare. A VFD with torque limiting cannot be employed either.
Imagine a conveyor system feeding a hopper with a very small wet powder that gums up everything and stops the process. The shear pins will snap, unless the system is ran back and forth a few times.
Websites or opinions are greatly appreciated.
