TopSolid - compatibility

Hi, it's the first time I write on this forum, but I red many topics.
You are all very competent, compliments!

My actual problem is that an external designer is sending us many important projects in d3d.
He works with an old version of TopSolid that is not compatible with our one...
We use also Proe and autocad 2000.

I need suggestions to manage this situation, because we can read the files but we cannot modify them.

As Mike says - do you specify format in your contract? Within reason as the customer you get to spec what you want.

Are you really asking if there is a CAD neutral format both systems can open & modify?

I have been in situations where customers explicitly state what CAD package (even down to version) they want used. As a vendor you either get that CAD system (or subcontract your self to someone that has it), or you no longer bid the work.

Some CAD companies have schemes for companies to loan their licenses to vendors - or at least get discounts on them etc.

I believe Top Solid uses the Parasolid kernel, in which case the Parasolid format (.x_t or .x_b) would be best ... if Pro/E can import those. If not STEP or IGES are usually next best.

However, I don't know how much capability Pro E has these days for manipulating 'dumb solids' - which seems to be what the OP wants. Plus I don't know of any file transfer that will work with model & drawing and keep them linked.

What are you reading them with, and can it "save as" or export them to other formats?
