Top reinforcement for Pile cap design 1

HI,
I am working on a Pile cap design for industrial bldg. I have 2 columns sitting at 8' apart on same pile cap.the pile cap is 5 pile group (12'X 12') & 7 pilegroup (14'X14').I am just wondering abt the top reinforcement design as now its gonna have some negative momenton the top.

IMHO, it is best to be conservative in design of industrial project for the following reasons:

1. You really don't know exactly how the structure will be loaded.
2. The intended use may (and frequently does) change over time.
3. The cost of the major components (the piles in this case) "dwarfs" the cost of the rebar.
4. The structures are sometimes complicated, so constructibility is an issue.

For these reasons, I prefer to see the top mat to be exactly the same as the bottom mat.

Don't forget that piles never get placed in the location shown on the drawings. They might be 6" or more out of alignment. Add a minimum of 12" to your span. Sometimes a pile might get abandoned in place another placed 3 feet away.
