Top Mounted Joist Hangers

Let it hang. Though some blocking or clips may be needed for finish attachment.

Thanks. Didnt think of that. I'll leave that upto the contractor.

Just a follow up question, any idea why some top mount hangers are only 11" deep? When carrying a 2x12 that now puts the 2x12 proud of the support member.

Perhaps to allow a sawn lumber joist to shrink a bit without the sheathing hanging up on the support.

I believe the recommended installation sequence, even for flush framed hangers, is to have the beam 1/8" low of top of joist just for the reason Koot indicates.

from Simpson tech - "The difference in height of the hanger and carried joist is to account for the thickness of the top flanges and fastener heads, as well as swelling if it is green lumber"
