What is the preferred method of attaching the top angle to the top of a tank shell, lap welded (Figure F-2 Detail b) or butt welded (Figure F-2 Detail d).

Usually butt-welded, depends largely on which way it can be done the quickest.

The problem we are running into are customers who insist on x-raying the butt joint between top angle and shell.

From my experience, the detail in F-2 b is much easier to install.
