Toolbox Fasteners and Slow PDMWorks Check In

We are experiencing a problem while checking in assemblies that have toolbox fasteners. It acts like it is checking in the fasteners and taking up to a minute to check each fastener in. This can add 5 to 10 minutes to the check in time for an assembly.

We started to notice this around the same time as we upgraded to 2005 last fall. But I can not remember if it started exactly when we upgraded to 2005. It has persisted as we have upgraded to SP0.1 and just recently SP1.1. The PDMWorks client and servers were updated in step with the SolidWorks service packs.

The vault application is running on a server and we have three cad workstations which all behave in this manner. It even occurs when I work with the vault that I have installed on my computer for testing purposes. Our toolbox is on a network drive and configured for a multi-user environment as described on SolidWorks’ web site.

I looked around in the help files and found a topic about configuring the vault and toolbox so that the toolbox files are not stored in the PDMWorks vault. After following those recommendations, the problem still persists. Specifically, if I am checking in an assembly with a fastener, the check in progress will pause for a significant amount of time with the message:

Sending: Pan Cross Head_AI.SLDPRT

Or some other fastener related file. I have also noticed that the VaultData\_TEMP directory has the corresponding .SLDPRT files. I tried deleting them, and they were replaced upon check in.

Here are the settings that I think are related to how the toolbox and vault interact, and what I have them set to.

C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\Toolbox\toolbox.ini has ToolboxPartFolder set to the same shared network location.

Within SolidWorks, the Configure Browser page has:
No copy (always use master part file) selected
Always change read-only status of document before writing selected

Within PDMWorks VaultAdmin, the Toolbox page has:
The path to the network shared toolbox in the Additional Toolbox and Standard Library root level folders list
Disable check in of documents selected
View referenced files in a separate project selected

So…
Anyone have any ideas about how to fix this, or has anyone else even experienced this?

Thank you for your time,
Eric Endsley
