Dear All,

Here I have an question. I have a camera model and I am making drawing out of it. I would like to show focus (from side view) on drawing seet so that I can dimension out its range on drawing sheet. It would be great help, if somebody could suggest me how to show that.

Regards,
Pa1

mkp520,

When I design optics, I build optical specifications into the model, especially those of the optical elements themselves. There are lots of ways to do this.

You can model the optical field of view as a part. On the current versions of SolidWorks, you can indicate that these are to be excluded from the BOM. Meanwhile, you can verify that your field of view is not blocked. Set the material density of your FOV to something as close to zero as you can (0.1kg/m^3). I identify the material as AETHER.

I assume your lens is modeled by rotating a sketch (or sketches). Add the focus as phantom lines to your sketch.

I have built the optical schematic into the model of the primary housing. This is possibly not a good idea if your are sending the CAD model out to a fabriator. You can build the optical schematic sketch into your assembly model.

In all cases, once you have the optical geometry built somewhere in your assembly, it is easy to capture this into your drawing.

Hi drawoh,

Thanks so much.....for your very quick response. I wanted to reply you so quickly but I wanted to finish my work to make sure that I dont have anymore questions on that before replying.

the only question I have is - Is there any way to change dimension arrows we like, if SW is not allowing? I will post that as a new thread to have bit more attention. Please go through my next thread.

Regards,
Pa1
