I was not sure where this thread should be placed. I am sorry if I put it in the wrong catagory. I am working with a cast titanium6-2-4-2 component. This is the first time I have worked on a titanium cast part and I am wondering how much material should be available to machine off to attain a 63 microinches surface roughness? I read that it machines similar to steel 312, but I do know that titanium requires slower tooling during construction. That leads me to beleive that the finish surface from the machining may require more material to attain the desired result. Usually I use 0.030 inches left over material for steel castings. Does that seem reasonable for a titanium casting?
