Timed pneumatic valves? 1

Does anyone know of pneumatic valves that can be set to actuate air on for a specified period time after a specified period of time has elapsed?

I have never worked with something like this and am just looking for a name if it exists.

Purely pneumatic. I've been told these solutions exist with the advantage of being less expensive and easier to install than electro-pneumatic options.

Yes, they exist.

Depending on the flow rate you need you may be able to use a pneumatic timer directly, or need to use one to pilot a larger valve.

Doubtful that they are cheaper or easier to install.

Pneumatic logic is really neat stuff, but there aren't too many folks around anymore that really understand it.

Anyway, a Google search for "pneumatic logic" will get you on the right track.

If you have the option, you should really think hard about retrofitting to solenoid actuated pneu valves or use solenoid valves for air pilots to bigger valves. You could do the control with a simple/cheap "smart relay" that is programmable. Inputs/Outputs/timers/delays/counters.

My dad's milking equipment was run almost entirely on air logic. Dairy cows are highly sensitive to stray voltage so the air control helped.

We got to learn pneumatic logic in school. Some real brain teasers and alot of fun. Then got to do it all over with electro- control. Very interesting to see the differences and similarities.

It doesn't look like we will be using pneumatic logic (not nearly as inexpensive as the person who suggested it was hoping it would be).

I have become interested in it though, very neat technology. I've performed a few web searches but haven't found many resources. Please post if you know of any.

Ross Controls make some air operated Poppet Valves in 2 and 3-Way configuration that may be what you are looking for.

I tried Clippard's MPL valves >20 years ago. It took three to make a pneumatic oscillator with adjustable on/off times for testing stuff.

One example here:

Their prices haven't gone up much in the intervening decades.

They are, or at least were, reliable and durable.

They used to stock nice plastic manifolds to implement common functions.
