I wanted to perform a bridge time history under strong motion records. Digitized strong motion records time step size was 0.000625 seconds. I defined the function time history and related load cases then started the analysis process, but analysis process did not initiate and became incomplete because below message appeared:
"function time increment is too small".
For finding reason of above error, I wanted to perform a one degree freedom structure time history analysis (not a bridge) under same strong ground motion records (dt=0.000625), after defining function time history and load cases, started the analysis process, analysis process initiated this time and above message did not appeared and finally time history analysis completed.
This error is due to using too small time increment, si I have a question: In SAP 2000, Have a limitation been defined for size of time increment? If there is so, is this limitation different for different structures, Is allowable time increment for simple structures such as one degree freedom structure smaller than complicated structures such as a bridge with large number of degree freedom? If there is a limitation, what reference do explain about time increment size limitation in SAP 2000?
