Tilde in front of dimension

I have searched the forum for this and can't find anything. I am making some sheet metal drawings, when I show a dimension and change it from decimal to fractional a tilde shows up in front of the dimension. Anyone have any idea what is going on?

OK I figured it out. I was off .001 on the dimension, and I guess it couldn't convert it to a fraction without it being "off". I changed the dimension by subtracting .001 and the tilde went away.

I believe from past experience that the tilde means "about" or "close to" but not the exact number.

Thanks contour, that helps a bunch....don't know why I didn't see that when I did a search for tilde.
