Hi,

I have a doubt regarding the calculation of tightening torque according to Appendix O of ASME PCC-1 for floating head flange with split ring of an AES heat exchanger.
Our customer explicitly requested this calculation and our software automatically performs this calculation for all flange couplings of the heat exchanger, except just for the floating head flange - split ring coupling.

Is this paragraph of this specification applicable in this case? I thought it did not because the split ring is not an integral flange connected to a shell, I was probably wrong.

I thank you in advance.

Are you referring to the PCC-1, App O Simple Approach (O-3) or Joint Component Approach (O-4) for your bolt torque? The Simple Approach (O-3) could be easily calculated for this. I have never seen the Joint Component Approach (O-4) used on floating head flange - split ring joints before & am not sure it's applicable either.

Hi Krausen, I'm referring to the Joint Component Approach O-4. Thank you

In some specs it says: for floating heads the required studs will be increased by 50%.

Regards
