Hello,

I keep on seeing that tie beams shall be provided if the column height is more than 4 to 5 meters. Is this based on any US Code more specifically on ACI 318? If yes, what provision number is it?

Thanks in advance!

No. I don't think there is a code provision that specifies tie beam based on building height but seismic design category.

IBC 1809.13 Footing Seismic Ties
- Where a structure is assigned to Seismic Design Category D, E or F, individual spread footings founded on soil defined in Chapter 20 of ASCE 7 as Site Class E or F shall be interconnected by ties.
