DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND THRUST BLOCKING DETAILS FOR PIPES OVER 10"? I HAVE FOUND DETAILS SHOWING MINIMUM THRUST BLOCK BEARING AREAS, BUT I NEED DIMENSIONS OF THE ACTUAL THRUST BLOCK. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE HELP.

I assume that this is thrust blocking for a waterline or sewer focemain. You can try the search on google as noted before. Oftentimes, local municipalities will have minimum sizes of thrust blocking oultined in their standard specifications. In North Carolina, I know that the Town of Cary and the City of Raleigh have their details on line and downloadable in .dwg and .pdf format. Try

Another source to caluclate the trust restraint needed is to contact EBAA Iron Works. They have a thrust restraint manual with their product literature on Mega-Lugs. I have even seen a software restraint program by them.

As a raw newcomer, I was assigned to designing a thrust block for a large water main in Philadelphia. The design ended up the size of a small house. A more experienced engineer showed me how to take the skin friction of the pipe into consideration, greatly lessening the required size of the block. Just a hint I thought I'd share.

Remember that the thrust blocks are below grade, so the pressures that the soil will take before movement are larger that the minumum bearing strengths you get from the lab.
