Threading on ST

So very basic question that is driving me crazy. I have a part with an external thread, yet I cannot find the thread command. Tried the command search, nothing. Looked up on the internet and saw a YouTube video of having a drop down menu under the Hole command with a thread command. Mine doesn't have this menu.
Kind of at a loss because I can't figure out how to thread, a basic knowledge you would think.

Thanks

Jordan

No I'm using ST1, and I don't have that dropdown menu. There has gotta be a way to do it on ST1 unless they completely dropped the ball and forgot.
Thanks though.

I skipped ST1 and went straight from V20 to ST2. I just had a look at what's new in ST2 and the Thread command is one of the new items in the list of new features.

Solid Edge ST2 SP5 on WinXP x64

Its in the same place in ST1 traditional - from the drop-down on the hole icon.
BUT ITS MISSING FROM SYNC MODE !!!!!!!!!

Where would we be without sat-nav?

Wow thats good. So I must switch from Synchronous mode to traditional then back? Im done the drawing now, just put dashed lines in drawings, but thats good to know for the next time. I hope someone at Siemens got fired because of that.

Thanks

Jordan.

I don't think you can switch like that.
Once a part is in sync mode that's it, no going back.

Yes the ball was dropped for ST1 on the thread command. You may do it in traditional but not Synch. This was a known issue that was corrected for ST2. Once you open a part in ST it has to stay in ST unless you were to do something like exporting as say a parasolid file and bringing it back in as a traditional file.

If you have access to ST2 the only reason to not switch immediatly to ST2 is the fact that ST3 will be out in about a month and distributed here in around 6 weeks or so. ST2 is MUCH better than ST1 and ST3 will make a believer out of those still hanging on to traditional for whatever reason. I have had the pleasure of seeing ST3 and all serious complaints I know of are addressed. There will be no reason to foot drag on ST3 unless you as a company are in the middle of a project with no time to switch over. And if you have access to ST2 and are still on ST1 you are missing out on much better functionality.

"unless you as a company are in the middle of a project with no time to switch over"

Well, that would be the main reason we're still on V19 - never a good time to switch because there's always some project at a critical stage.

I don't know how many users are at your facility but the way some plants are doing it is to get at least one of the users up to speed on ST and when he is pretty good he becomes the company trainer. They don't have to transition the whole department at once and new projects get moved to the new versions so that over time something as old as V19 is phased out.

I know backwards looking management that insists on insufficient staff and loves crisis management can be a huge road block to moving on but they will be foolish if they do not do so for ST3.

I feel that many managers do not understand that moving to ST versions does not mean you have to use it in sync mode.
Traditional mode is still there so you can carry on using your existing methods.
Having said that, there is a loss in productivity as you learn the new interface (and even afterwards in my opinion)
I think it takes 2-3 weeks to learn the new interface properly, but some new functionality will make it worthwhile.
The company I work for is still using V20, and they are owned by Siemens (work that one out!!) but are apparently moving to ST2 in about a month's time.

ST2 is far better than ST1 and as you say traditional is still there to use.
The biggest single issue I have with ST is that when it does fail WHY? You can spend way to much time trying to figure things out and the error messages given are really useless in telling you how to fix the problem. This is the largest area of time wasting and it will be a big one until you work with it enough to understand the limitations. It's more than just the ribbon bar junk that you will have to learn and I can assure you it will be more than 2 to 3 weeks before you get the hang of it.

I wish I could talk to you about the features of ST3, which is where your company probably should start with Synch if they are going to switch at this time. ST3 rollout should start around mid October and if they can wait for that to see the new version next to ST2 I think they would be well rewarded. All the beta testers were leaving Huntsville with smiles on their faces if that is any hint as to what is to come.

Thought about this before I left today. You guys might want to remind management that it will soon not matter if they don't want to spend the time to move to a new version. ST3 will absolutely be the last version supporting XP. I am not sure on this but for some reason I want to say that Office 2007 may be required for ST3. In any case our love affair with XP and older versions of Office will not matter soon as support from both MS and SE will go away. They are going to have to upgrade whether they like it or not and why not now with the begining of a new OS cycle and the maturing of ST to a very good product.
Or I suppose they could add to their IT department to support legacy applications;-]

There are some graphical display features of ST3 that are not supported on XP. So a lot of user are talking about getting new workstations with Windows 7 at the same time.

I just switched to Windows 7 64 bit and have been more than happy with the speed and stability. Yea, it takes some time to get email going and all your files moved but you come out of it much more efficient.

Support for the older OS's gets harder because like lapuser said, Microsoft is dropping support, hardware vendors are not supporting older drivers (I think dell said they would stop in Dec), and Win7 supports new graphics options.
