Is there a way to calculate the angle of the threads of a bolt? If so, is the calculation based on using the root of the threads or the crest of the threads, as they appear to have a different angle?

Bolt depicted below has a one inch diameter with 6 threads per inch.

Thanks.

It's basic geometry - RISE/RUN ( Opposite over Adjacent) Since the RISE (Opposite) is equal to the pitch, the RUN (adjacent) varies across the radius of the screw thread face.

May have more detail than you need? Classic understatement.

Very helpful. Thank you.

Will be back when I get smarter.

It was just a bit of a warning... I'm into tekkie stuff and occasionally stuff that 'I have for breakfast' can be too much detail for others.

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?
