One article I read (sorry, don't have the link) suggested the cuts were successful, but planned poorly. As it was collapsing, the cuts closed up on themselves and jammed.

If a bridge that falls down, like Tacoma Narrows or the Silver Bridge, is a "disaster", I wonder what is the term for a bridge that does NOT fall down (when it is supposed to do so)?
