When originally installed Windows XP worked just fine. Lately I get the above message (usually while surfing the net) multiple times and have to shut internet explorer down and then reload in order to continue. Sometimes I have to reboot entirely. Would hope for a solution without having to reload XP which also requires reloading all the other software as well.
Any and all help and suggestions appreciated.

Use the System Restore fuction built into WinXP.

Just type system restore into the help menu, it real easy to use and can be a lifesaver with XP.

Remember...

your going to have to use your feet."

System Restore is also directly available in Start Menu|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Restore

Hopefully, System Restore was left on when you originally installed XP. It's probably far and away the best "feature" the MS ever included in their operating systems.

What does this have to do with the original topic?

It has to do with where you can find the system restore utility(something I looked around for longer than I wanted to), and this person's indepedant opinion of this function that may solve the question of the post. It was helpful to me. Lighten up.

Actually, there used to be a post that didn't relate to the the actual thread. It looks like the errant post got deleted, but my comment did not. I tried red-flagging my post, but it hasn't been deleted yet!

Sorry about that then:) Didnt mean to jump on your case, I hadnt seen the previous response. Keep up the good work!

Well Cowpoke,

Goto control panel, click on add/remove programs, and remove IE.
Then goto program files directory locate Internet Explorer sub-directory delete the whole directory !

Then Reboot the system, go back to add/ remove program and click on add Internet explorer, after that goto microsoft update, and update with the latest security patches.

Also get a really good firewall, ZoneAlarm 4, and Norton personal firewall, work great together.

For my personal advise, I would dnload netscape 7.02 get it completely installed. Then remove Internet Explorer completely from your system {:)

Yea, I would have to agree with KingShip, it seems the new version of netscape is more reliable then the current version of Internet Explorer, and in some cases may even run faster then IE. I would follow his steps and get Netscape going, even Opera or Mozilla will work fine.

If you want to get a little more intense, you have the option of greating Partitions on your current hard drive and moving all your files (the ones you want to keep) to the new partition and just reformatting the C drive. Most of the time when I get an overwhelming amount of messages like that I reformat and keep my files on 2 other partitions on the hard drive. Programs like Partition Magic can do this for you I'm pretty sure, and I think WinXP has a feature that allows formatting without software (which doesn't help you on Win98 = ( ).

~hope this helped.
