Third Party Toolbox Library

Anyone have any experience with third party toolbox libraries? There are some other users here who do not like the SW Toolbox (most of their concerns are with the way the SW parts show up in a BOM) and want me to look into some of the others that are out there. We want to determine if it would be cheaper to purchase a library that functions close to what they want instead of me creating a custom library from the standard SW toolbox.

Thanks,
Heckdogg

Look in the partners at if you want something intergrated into SW, or if not search the web... but off the top of my head, I don't think there any others that are directly intergrated within SW.

I already looked there, found a couple that we might be interested in, but I was just looking for other user's opinions or experience with them.

I use SolidMech 3.2 from EMT Software (now owned by CADalog) & have not had any problems with it. However, I only use it to create the base model of a standard part & then use a DT to create all the configs I need.

CBL,
Do you use hardware from SolidMech? That is what the other users are wanting a different library for. They seem fine using the structural members from the SW toolbox, just not the hardware.

Yes, that's all I used it for ... I rarely use it now as I have created my own library of hardware parts from it.

I have version 3.2, but version 4.1 is now available from for $49.95 & apparently has improved quite a bit.

yes, I saw that it is only $49.95, all the others are $100+, that's why I was "shying" away from it at first. ("you get what you pay for!")

How are the custom properties set up on the hardware models? Are any properties already filled out?

Heckdogg,
Are ya doing any aerospace/military work? I might be able to help you if your using NAS, MS hardware. I have all my custom Properties to show all these specs. And the descriptions are in UPPERCASE.

Let me know,

SolidMech 3.2 did not have properties. Which is one reason I liked it ... I used DTs to create the configs, so entered the properties I wanted. I believe version 4.1 has included properties & has an auto-insertion feature similar to SW Toolbox but have not tried it nor seen it demoed.

The $49.95 price was $149.95 ... as far as I am concerned it is every bit as good (maybe better) than what I have seen of Toolbox but without the problems I keep reading about here. Of course that depends on how it is implemented & used.

macduff,
thanks for the offer, but I am in packaging equipment, not aerospace.

CBL,
thanks for all your input. I have a few people to talk to here today, and we may go ahead and purchase SolidMech.
