I am looking for software to calculate the mechanical
properties of thinwalled sections.I remember to have
seen such software for free downloading.

If you're talking about cold-formed members, then there's a program called CFS that I think is the most common one.

Watch out if you have a flat with intermediate stiffeners. Older versions did not treat this correctly. I haven't reviews the newer ones.
