Thin crack on steel column

Hi Guys, I've noticed this thin crack on a steel column in my shop, I sanded it down abit and its not very deep, the plaster marks are from when there was a partition which was taken out, anything to worry about ? TIA

Looks more like gouges than thru cracks.

As far a “is it a problem “? Well, we have way too little info.

not entirely sure what exactly this column is supporting and lateral forces subjected to. From what I can see doesn't seem to be a problem. The two 'cracks' are actually at right angles to each other, which is a bit unexpected if that side of the column was in tension up to plastic failure (this is your concern). Take a look at the flange edge and inside face of the flange. If everything looks good there, and considering columns usually are in compression, there's probably nothing to worry about.

These marks will cause strain hardening, kind of like cold work. Probably no loss of material. I don't think it should affect the capacity much. If the column was designed to 90% instead of 100%, probably not an issue.
