Thickness through the weld

I would like to know what is the meaning of thickness through the weld in ASME B&PV ?

Thickness through the weld is applicable to the type of weld -

for a fillet weld, the through thickness is the throat of the weld,
for a groove weld, it is the thickness deposited.
