Greetings to evreyone of you.

We are doing a thickness measurement for controlling gas containers for domestic use (normally for cooking). We have a standard where it is stated that "All containers which external diameter exceed 152.4 mm (6 in.) shall have a minimum wall thickness not less than 1.98 mm (5/64 in.)......"
Under this condition, if we found that a cylinder has just one point (We are taking 64 points per cylindre) less than the minimum requiered thickness above mentioned it shall be rejected because th estandard doesn´t mention average, or a percent of all measurement taken as people somtimes think.
Do you agree with me?
I will aprreciate your opinion

I think you have answered your own question.
Your specification states a minimum wall thickness. I would interpret that as stated. You violate the requirement even if it is at one point.
Can you request a waiver for that particular unit?

Thanks monkeydog, I think also that I have answered my own question but as you could see, there are many people here that are not satisfied when you reject acording to this part of the stanadar and start to make claims, even those who have participated on the elaboration of the standard.
Now we are just repoting the results of the measurement and leaving the regulatority authority to make its own conclusion.

Perhaps your standard is not set by considering all the relevant factors. Fitness for service assessment can indicate the minimum thickness for different sizes of thinned areas. So you set a "rule" and now you have the choice of enforcing it or stipulating when it truly should be applied.

A common problem for all mankind!
