Hello,

I am looking for some advice on a material with which to mold a "brush" handle. It's a BBQ grill tool, and needs to be strong.

I want to stay completely away from having two mirrored halves for the housing- that are joined with screws like a cordless drill or toy gun- but want a sculptural, ergonomically volumed shape.

I found a scrub brush that has very thick-walled sections, and does NOT appear to be structural foam. It actually has a sort of greasy feel like Delrin. All sections are solid, and up to about .462" thick !

Have any idea what this material is?
Or do you know of a similar material that could be used to make very thick sections?

Thanks for your help.

I performed a search for this and found nothing relevant.

Polypropylene blown with Tenite blowing agent masterbatch.

The foam is so fine and slow enough to develope so that the surface skin is not blown and the core is so fine you need a magnifying glass to see the bubbles.

Eastman Kodac or whatever they call themselves now manufacture it.

Pat

The greasy feel suggests polyethylene or polypropylene.

There is a local factory here where I live making brushes like that. They are PP with plenty of filler and foamed because that's the cheapest you can get.

Thanks for the great input, guys. Based upon your this- looks like it's possible to source a PP structural foam that can be used without being gassed. Very good news- Thanks.
