We have permanent artillery positions on the Trans Canada highway through some of the mountain passes. Traveling with the kids a few years ago, traffic was stopped for a few hours while crews "shot down" snow accumulations and then cleared the highway. (The positions are permanent but the guns are mobile and are trailered out when needed.
