Hi,
I have designed a Coil Storage Warehouse which is adjacent Coil Factory Warehouse... The location of the footings of the Coil Storage Warehouse is directly aligned on the existing Coil Factory Warehouse... After we have excavated the soil to the required level (1.70m depth) for the new isolated footings, we discovered that our new isolated footings will be completely on the top of the existing isolated footing. The Column to Column span of the Existing Coil Factory Warehouse is 50.00m so it has big footing size whereas the column to column span of our new coil storage warehouse is 17.00m only so the footing dimension is 1.70x2.00m only. Anyone could please suggest me for the practical engineering solution for this??

I would have thought this discovery would have been made earlier, as you obviously knew the other building was there. Now you just have to assess the affect of the new footing on the old. It may even help. Do the numbers.

I agree with hokie - to know the old building's span and not understand the the footings would be larger (compared to theirs with the shorter span . . .). Perhaps they will have to put in two footings straddling the old with a beam across to take the column load and spread onto the two footings - but even this, the effect of the new footings on the old must be confirmed as red or green.
