Howard,
I appreciate the invite very much! I think I'll be able to learn much from you and others here, while hopefully contributing whatever I can.
I'm certainly willing to share the results of the lake marl testing in more detail. We'll have to talk about the best way to post Excel charts or pdf files...
Mark
I should have acknowledged your invitation in this thread. Hope that it will develop to discuss issues that still bother us despite that we have used many principles without truly understanding many of them over the years. I always find myself revisiting the works of Terzaghi despite how old they are as it seems that true understanding can only be had in reviewing many of his writings. Let us not forget as well that they were others that wrote before him and he was able to confirn or disprove their findings. The lateral pressure on braced excavations not being hydrostatic was observed in the field before Terzaghi put some rational to it. We should be still in the same mode today in our thinking
Big H,
I wish to join all other colleagues in thanking you for the invitation, at the same time taking the opportunity to say hello to everyone in this group.
I appreciate your idea and look forward to contribute to its development.
I've been pretty impressed by the Eng-Tips forum ever since I recently joined it -- an excellent learning environment. Geotechnical engineering is all about problems and that is what makes it both so challenging and rewarding. I haven't had much of a chance to peruse the "Foundations by Terzaghi" forum as of yet, but I expect that it will be even more rewarding.
So, I appreciate your inviting me onboard. I'm looking forward to interacting with your group.
