Can anyone out there suggest a good testing laboratory that can provide analytical values such as heat content, flash point, sulfer content, viscocity, ash content, ect. for fuel oils?
In power stations and aboard ship fuel quality is an important consideration during bunkering and use and many use a fuel analysis kit for self testing.

A good testing laboratory that can provide analytical analysis for fuel oils is a service you have to look for locally (where the testing has to be performed). If the testing is extensive then you have to consider having your own lab. In some cases it is justified to install some online analysis device(s). As you gave no indications about your specific needs and condition I cannot go any deeper in this case. I shall be willing to discuss it further with you – if you get in touch with me Avihu@HiramEng.com .
And Solartons ViscoMaster viscometer (for fuel oil heater control) measures the density, base density, dynamic viscosity, kinematic viscosity and Ignition index eliminating many of the offline measurements (visit
I would be interested to hear which of the other measurements can be performed online. (one inline measurement that is more difficult is to measure the base viscosity of the oil, but it is not impossible, just that it can be very expensive if conducted in the fuel lines. It is less expensive to check the 50deC viscosity in the bunkering lines. Again, see the Solartron Website.
