I was reading the post on the 8m columns and I was curious what exactly are kickers and shutters? These are terms that we do not use in the states

Kickers are generally a starter shape of a wall or column approximately 150mm (6") tall cast on a slab or foundation to position shutters and restrain against movement.

Shutters are formwork to define the shape of the concrete pour.

We are curious to find out how the construction accuracy results turned out from the guy who poured the columns without kickers....

Hi Cherrypicker,

Haven't logged on in ages...

I did floor slabs and walls but took another job before the columns started...

The next engineer said the kickerless columns weren't going too well though!

Thanks for the knowledge. All elevated slabs and decks I have worked on we put down a template ( made of wood) and that is how we secure the column form to the slab
