Termination of Doubler/fishplates/gusset plates in structures

Hi,
I am looking for a standard which gives some guidelines on how best to shape the termination of a doubler/fishplate plate to have low stress concentration at the ends. Any guidelines on overall design of the doubler will be helpful too. I deal with mining industry and design mobile mining equipment but use a lot of steel structures construction guidelines for design the heavyduty components.

i don't have any references, but we typically use a "fish-mouth" type of doubler, particularly if fatigue is a concern (over cost ... the simpler square end is much cheaper). The detail design is usually a matter for case-by-case situations ... typically i'd extend the "lips" of the fish mouth 3 to 4 fasteners beyond the bulk of the dblr.

taper the width and put a generous radius to soften it. also tapering the thickness with a 1:3 slope at the end will help
