Hi all,
I am modeling a box section (frame elements) which sit on the soil. In SAP 2000 I assigned a line spring (I used subgrade modulus for the spring constant) to the element at the base (base of box section). I meshed the line into a few elements and I chose the ‘compression only’ option in the line spring input in the expectation that it can release any tension that will occur in the soil spring since the soil cant resist tension. But when I checked the result after run, it showed that the joint reaction of the spring was under tension. Does this feature of SAP really release the tension in the spring? Please help
Thank you very much
