I am trying to help my old high school out. Their tensile test machine broke down. I am trying to get a new one for them. Any advice on where I can purchase low cost, but reliable tensile testing machines that can test metals?
You might reach out to some of the guys that do refurbish/retrofits on older machines.
They may have something that would work for you.
Where are you located?
Instead of a replacement, how about a re-building? For high school purposes I'd question the need for high precision. RE-building would be a nice project any how.
One of the 3D printer channels I follow just went over a tensile testing machine they built for testing plastics. Something similar with a sturdier build should be able to do metal. Everything he does and the code he has is available on an open source basis (I think). Check it out here:
BTW, how broke is it that it can't be fixed? We've had to replace a computer on our UTS machine. It was a pain to find one because it had to have a -12V supply which made it an oddity. Every other component I would expect would be procurable/reproducible.
