We are currently at a cross roads. Our company is on TeamCenter Engineering 2007 running both I-deas5 and NX6.
Our current crossroad comes because when we upgrade NX6 to NX6.0.3 (or higher) TeamCenter loses communication.
The following error is thrown after the update...
NX cannot be started as it is not compatible with the version of TeamCenter it is trying to connect to.
"Ok just upgrade TeamCenter!" is most people's response (including my own but I am the one doing it). So far upgrading TeamCenter has been nothing short of nightmare. It seems each time we upgrade we are down for a day or so as something always goes wrong.
Looking over Siemens website, TeamCenter8 is now available and promises to be much more forgiving on the Admin side of the show.
Has any body had experience with administrating both versions of TeamCenter and are the benefits of moving to TeamCenter8 wort the time and effort?
I ask because I am blown away at how manual the upgrade is... copy a folder here, change this registry value, run a 200 character command prompt execution... I'm accustomed to hard work... that's not the problem. My problem is how hard would it be to better automate this process? If upgrading TeamCenter was as easy as updating NX, I wouldn't even be having this converstation...
Anyway, I digress...
Thank you all in advance.
Keegan
