Dear All

A conical section with half apex angle of 15 degrees is going to be joined to a cylinder of different thickness. The difference in thickness is 20 mm. Is there any requirements for a tapered transition as per UW-9 or UW-13 for this joint? In tapered transition requirement is there any difference if the change in thickness is in the large or small end of the conical section?

Warm Regards

You must consider each extreme correctly.

Paulettaa, a sketch would be helpful but I'd say that per UW-3(b) you apparently have a Category B butt joint at each end of the conical transition. UW-9(c)(1) applies, pay attention to the third sentence.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
