Anyone have, or can give me link for, an online calculator for determining volumes in a horizontal cylindrical tank based on vwertical units (ie as in a sight glass)
I can find loads with imperial units but need one with SI units (litres/m3)

Just as a side question. Has anyone determined an analytical solution for volume versus liquid height. I remember this being difficult to solve. Anyone?

The problem has been solved. Some years back, I offered a full Excel workbook on calibration and calculation of horizontal and vertical process tanks with a variety of different heads. I (and approximately several hundred engineers who have written to me to send them the workbook) have used this workbook for a variety of applications - at the design stage and in the plant operations.

Thank you. I usually use a table It is amazing how such a seemingly simple problem can not be simply solved. For example, describing the motion of three objects trajectory bound by their gravitation attraction. Makes me think there might be breathing room for something creative.

Thanks very much, when I started out in chem eng there were not even calculators invented, I used a slide rule.
Can you,nowadays,imagine working without even excel, let alone something like HYSIS ?
And I guess you have heard this before but I wish you Americans would go metric, however it's about as likely as us Brits driving on the correct side of the road.
