Has anyone ever put anchor bolt chairs on the inside of a skirt for a tall tower? I have a 154" diameter, 100' tall vessel to be supported on a skirt. Due to shipping size issues I would like to put the anchor chairs inside the skirt. Any thoughts?
I've done it on a retrofit basis. Like Steve said, not a big deal assuming you have access. Be sure to check with the structural folks designing the foundation, though. Sometimes they have limits on bolt spacing in the foundation.
Thanks for the replies. Yes, there will be two access openings. Structural is also ok with it. There are no wind loads and the seismic is a zone 1. Just wanted to check if its been done before, since I found no literature on it.
When you put the bolts inside, you reduce the bolt circle radius and therefore increase the bolt loads somewhat. Not a big issue with hand calcs, but does need to be considered in the design.
