Hi,

For a mixing vessel, how would the design margin of 2.4 be applied to the static load from a bulk material? The powder weight results in a nonlinear distribution of wall stress due to cohesive forces and wall friction. These distributions were calculated from Jansson/Jenike theory since the hydrostatic assumption is too conservative. Is it appropriate to apply the design margin directly to the material bulk density?

The Code does not specify how you apply Ps, just that you do. In your case, it would be comprised of a normal and tangential load/pressure/traction. You would then factor that by Beta, as indicated in Table 5.5.

Your approach appears to be reasonable.
