Are there ISO or ANSI standards for symbols? For example, what is the ISO standard symbol for Torque? Is it M, T, MT, Mx?

I have never seen a standard for such symbols, but their use is universal in reference books and texts. I would imagine that their might be a standard, but its obscurity seems to make it unimportant.
Edson Campos
edsoncampos@earthlink.net
