SWX09 sp2 - Dwg Editor relationship 1

For our sheet metal parts we create a second sheet with each drawing containing only the flat pattern geometry in 1:1 scale. We export that to dxf format to send to our laser cutters. When opening up DWG Editor to check the dxf file SW automatically minimizes even if I'm still working in it. If you try to bring it back up before DWGE is finished opening it flashes all the set veiws of the part and minimizes again. Also once work is complete in DWGE I get a prompt for saving views. If I pick yes I get an error message and DWGE crashes. If I pic no It repeats for what I assume is all set views.

Is there a way to turn off the associativity between the two programs? We do not want the dxf file parametrically linked to the SW part or drawing after it is exported. It needs to be a snapshot. Its very annoying and frustrating as I used to be able to export the drawing to both PDF and DXF in about a minute per drawing. Now it takes 5+ minutes to do one & restart DWGE every time.

I don't know of a way to disassociate the two programs. Have you notified or asked your VAR?

I rarely use DWGeditor, but gave it a try.

"When opening up DWG Editor to check the dxf file SW automatically minimizes even if I'm still working in it."
Same here. Workaround ... Close the model before opening in DWGeditor. Having the SW drawing open does not seem to have an affect. It's not actually a problem, you wanted DWGeditor open anyway.

"If you try to bring it back up before DWGE is finished opening it flashes all the set views of the part and minimizes again."
Same here. Workaround ... let DWGeditor finish opening!
I agree it shouldn't happen, but if you know what's causing the problem ... stop doing it.

"Also once work is complete in DWGE I get a prompt for saving views. If I pick yes I get an error message and DWGE crashes. If I pic no It repeats for what I assume is all set views."
Nope. No problem when saving.

Start DWGEditor, type in "Menuload" and the Customize dialog box pops up.

On the left hand side, under menutree, pick "e&Drawings" and "&PDMWorks Workgroup" (if you have PDMWorks) and hit the delete button. If you see anything else related to SW in there, delete it to, these are the 2 that I have with SW Professional and no telling what other versions have.

This will kill the menus and the relationship with SW.

smcadman,
That took care of it, thanks man! I knew there had to be someway to do it.

It works for sheet metal part files where you directly "save as" DXF. If your part is not a sheet metal part and you put it on a drawing and from a drawing file you "save as" DXF, then you might get the SW warning about the drawing has changed and if you want to update the DXF.

There is another way to do this also, but I forgot the step to kill the link regardless of whether you are using a part file or drawing file to save as DXF.

Well I spoke too soon as the issue is still there. I had restarted SWX so DWGE was still open and didn't notice that it might make a difference. It appears if I open DWGE first before SWX I don't have an issue. I'm currently working around it but its still annoying.
