SWRO degasifier before IX

Hi,

I need to design a degasifier (air stripper) for a SWRO application in order to reduce the CO2 content in the permeate water to be able to obtain purified water and meet the project's target conductivity after the EDI process.

Basically, the process scheme is as follows: UF->SWRO->EDI.

I understand the basics of how a degasifier works: water is transferred to the top of a degasifier were it is distributed over high surface area media. The water trickling down fully wets the media, creating a thin film of water with a large surface area. Simultaneously, air is introduced at the bottom of the tower and passes upward through the media. This turbulent contact between the air and water induces stripping of volatile "contaminants" into the air stream.

I would appreciate any tips on what to consider and how to design the tower ans especially the packing depth required for my application.

In this type of unit, the water is typically sprayed into packed tower containing rasching rings. There may be a blower at the base. This type of unit may add contaminants into the water that are present in the air.

So, you need to determine type of degasification equipment for your design requirements. If you desire higher water quality, a vacuum degasifier may be used. A vacuum unit uses a vacuum pump.

You probably should consult with a water treatment supplier such as Siemens if you want details.
