When creating a sweep, the cross section which you are sweeping can not intersect itself as it moves through curves.Without the radii, the section is mitered at the corners. Try reducing the size of the cross section you are sweeping, or increase the radius size. Also you can use the mitered look and then add rounds after. Also if you are using an open section make sure you choose Add ineer faces.
