Swagelok Fittings in CSA Z662 application

Hello, we are reviewing a design for an odorant tank in a natural gas distribution system in Alberta, Canada under CSA Z662. The tubing that connects the odorant tank to the Pipeline is 1/2" with Swagelok ends. Some of the valves also have Swagelok ends.

I can not find anything within CSA Z662 that allows me to use these. These fittings are used at every facility though, so I'm sure there is a reasonable way to justify their use. The components are all fine for pressure, temperature, materials, service fluid, etc.

The only way around it that I can see is to perform an engineering assessment, but that requires a risk assessment, an engineering assessment procedure with documented competencies, methodology, and acceptance criteria.

There must be a simpler way. If anyone has any experience with this justification, I would appreciate your feedback.

Believe the issue is that Swagelok is acceptable for smaller tubing. Do you have the list of codes from your gas company? There are more codes than CSA Z662.

The odorant piping is probably made to the Canadian B51 standard. Swagelok has a CRN {Canadian Registration number) which authorizes that these fittings have been accepted and registered for use in Canada.

The odorant tubing is smaller than NPS ¾. Fittings 26 mm (NPS ¾) in diameter and over should be welded.

The entire Swagelok catalog has a current CRN in every province that maintains the CSA B51 CRN requirement.

Swagelok can provide you with a letter which states that their fittings are approved for fuels/natural gas uses in Ontario, within their limits. Suspect Swagelok will have a similar letter from the AHJ in every province.

Thanks for your response, the B51 justification is the one that I was overlooking. I was focusing on the B16.34 and API standards too much.
